Humans of Instagram
Spotlighting the people we love who genuinely influence our buying power and inspire us daily.
I started the @style_mum Instagram account in 2013 first as a hobby and an outlet for my styling passion. I studied at the London College of Fashion but after finishing, I fell into a City job due to financial reasons and spent 15 years at the same firm. My instagram was a little escape from my 9 to 5 and as the community grew it became my happy place . I juggled the blog and the city job for around 5 years until I took the plunge last year and went freelance, it was the best decision I ever made and I’ve never looked back.
I always think it helps if a relationship is formed first, popping for a coffee or lunch and chatting through ideas always helps. There is nothing worse than when a brand emails you but it is completely the wrong fit and you can tell they haven’t taken the time to look at your feed.
It has been an exciting start to the year as I have been signed as an ambassador for the year for two fab brands, Neutrogena and Avon. Fashion is where I started but I am always happy to step out of my comfort zone.
These shots (below) are my favourite by far because of the moment in time it reminds me of. We went on a family road trip last summer for a month around California and whenever I feel down I look at the album as it was probably the best trip of my life. These photos were taken outside the famous Paul Smith Store on Melrose Avenue by my husband, I loved this Topshop dress to and the photo ended up in Stella Telegraph magazine
Stay engaged with your following, reply to people if they have taken the time to send you a message as you wouldn’t be where you are without them. Stay true to yourself and say no to things if they are not the right fit for you.
As a social media influencer but also a mother sometimes the lines can get slightly blurred and too much can get put out there. I always try to keep somethings back by making our home as private as possible,I don’t show our house on my instagram feed and am aware of how much of my children I do feature. The boys are about to start senior school this year and I want to be respectful of their lives and online footprint.
